The Scottish Arts Council is an organisation that was created to promote and preserve art in all it’s forms in Scotland. 1994 the Arts Council of Great Britain was restructured and the Scottish Arts council was established, since then it has done a great deal of work to promote traditional and contemporary Scottish art. In 2007 the Scottish Arts Council was responsible for investing over £55 million in arts and related events and activities throughout Scotland. The offices of the Scottish Arts council are based in Edinburgh and they currently employ approximately 90 people.
The Scottish arts council is responsible for the distribution of funds it receives from the Scottish government for the promotion of art. These funds are then used by the Scottish art council to support all major areas of the arts. The National Lottery is also responsible for providing the Scottish Arts Council with a significant portion of its funding.
The Scottish Arts council spends a significant portion of it’s resources on promoting art and education about art in schools. The art departments of many schools and other academic institutions have benefitted significantly from funding and resources provided by the Scottish Arts Council. A number of talent young Scottish artists have risen to prominence through the use of facilities and resources which have been provided by the Scottish Arts Council, their work has had a significant impact on proliferation of the arts throughout Scotland.
